Personal Settings
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:34:51 AM »
In our Profile Setting we have a lot of personal settings to choose from.

For example, I have chosen to block signatures, because some members have signature images that I find a little too distracting (the images are too big in my opinion). This is just my own preference, and while I would rather be able to see everyone signature, I just don't like it when I'm distracted by some of these signature images.

So this leads to my next question for Starscream to ponder.
A lot of members like using smileys or emoticons.
I like some, but I can live without them. Also, I continue to have intermitant trouble with them and the effect they have on the text box when I post a message.
So, I'd like to know if you can offer members the option of enabling or disabling smilys? I would like to turn them off, but can't find a switch for it on the personal settings. Is this feature available to us?

Mike: there is no such custom setting for the individual that I know.  A solution is to manually edit the code so that it parses over a smilie and replace it with a text string instead - this requires additional work and moreover it does not make sense to display : flower : if you get what I mean.

As smilies are used by everyone in most forum/bulletin boards, it is not my intention to pursue this "frill" feature for now.  However, we can look into your text box issue that you mentioned.  I myself use Firefox (current update) with a screen resolution of 1440 x 900 and it is working fine.

Okay SS.

I know the posting problem is something that has cropped up before (aanother member had the problem too = http://www.tomicafanclub.com/index.php?topic=28.msg147#msg147 ), and it seems to be an issue with MS IE (mostly version 8 ). I was able to originally fix it by selecting the compatability view feature. Perhaps my settings were somehow cleared. I've re-clicked the Compatability View button and will see if things are fixed.

As for the smileys, A lot of forum software has the option for users to turn smiley on or off - so I'm really surprised that SMF doesn't have this feature, but I tried checking SMF myself and couldn't find anything either. I guess I'll just have to learn to live with them...

Yeah, I tried sourcing for answers too for SMF Boards.  Please update if you find new information  :cigar:

On second thought, I dont suggest Internet Explorer to colleagues, friends or anyone when there are much better browser choices out there.  Please try Firefox, Chrome or Safari  :tongue3:

Sorry, but I've used IE forever, and I've heard bad things about the other choices too. I'm not about to use a different browser for every site I visit (and we are not allowed to change the browser on our computers at work).

It's probably another IE issue, but this new christmas (snowman) theme skin for the forum, causes a lot of the icons to 'not work' so all I get are little red x's where the icon should be...  :unhappy:

If anyone is facing similar issues pls let Toyotageek or myself know, it is good to know if such cases are isolated to IE.  At any rate, please select your default theme in the meantime.  Yeah, no snow I know  :wry:
