TOMICA LIMITED VINTAGE

The Tomica Limited Vintage [TLV] series was first released in 2004. The TLV line is managed by TOMYTEC. The original concept was to make domestic [Japanese] cars from the Showa 30's [1955 to 1965]. The idea was "if Tomica was available in Showa 30, what cars would have been made?" The current range of models includes vehicles from the 1950's up to 1970. In 2006 the Tomica Limited Vintage-Neo [TLV-N] line was created and currently includes vehicles from 1970 to the 1980's. The focus of TLV was on adult collectors, and so the importance was placed on form over function. This meant a high level of realism, with more attention to detail of the vehicle, such as wheels, tires, paint, trim and emblems verus functions like opening doors or hoods. All the models are a consistant scale of 1/64.

PACKAGING and DESCRIPTION

BOX ART & NUMBERING
The TLV box design saw several changes the first few months of production, and it wasn't until around May 2004 that we see the current design take full effect.
BOX FRONT: All TLV from the first to the present have an artists rendering of the vehicle on the box front. While the first wave of TLV, released in January of 2004 had the product number on the front, they did not have alphabetic designations on the box front. The use of the alphabetic designation on the box front did not appear until May 2004.
BOX TOP: From the begining, the top of all TLV boxes had an outline illustration of the featured vehicle. The models released in January 2004 had TOMICA LIMITED VINTAGE, printed in red above the illustration. In February 2004 red TOMICA LIMITED VINTAGE was replaced by the product number and name of the vehicle.

Examples include:

• LV-01 Nissan Cedric, has 6 versions, the first 4 version are numbered LV-01 on front, and the last two from May 2004 are labeled as LV-01e and LV-01f.
• LV-02 Prince Gloria, has 6 versions, the first 4 versions are numbered LV-02 on front, and the last two from May 2004 are labeled as LV-02e and LV-02f.
• LV-03 the Toyopet Crown, has 7 versions, the first 5 versions are numbered LV-03 on front, and only the last two from May 2004 are labeled as LV-03f and LV-03g. It should be noted that LV-03c and LV-03d are labeled as such on the TOP of the package, while LV-03e is not. LV-03f and LV-03g are also labeld as such on top.

The numbering system we use here is based on the TLV website.

COMPANY NAME
On March 1 2006 toy manufacturer TOMY merged with toy manufacturer TAKARA to create TAKARATOMY. 
The early TLV were labeled with TOMY on the front of the box, however after December 2004 the TOMY name was removed from the box front. It was around May 2006 that TOMYTEC was added to the front of the box and continues to appear there to the present.
