Found some more pictures of the 40th reissue Vol 1 set.
It looks like the 'nameplates' are stickers, and come in Japanese & English.

That's too bad, especially at the high prices of Tomicas. What is also pretty disappointing are the stickers on some of the cars, such as the racing R35 GT-R's. At $3 a car, couldn't they at least print it?

I found out some more about these models. Looks like they are "Lacquer Miniatures" decorated by the famous craftsmen of Wajima. The models are not for sale, and are valued at 80,000 yen.

Will see if I can find the picture that had some info on the fairladies....I think

Thanks for this informative post and translating it.

I like the anniversary models.

When Matchbox brought back the Superfast Blue Shark model in the New Superfast line, it brought back memories (to me at least, because i played with Superfastīs when i was little). Sure, the new release wasnīt as charming as the old, original one, but i liked it for memory sake.

So i can imagine, that japanese collectors are perhaps in a similar situation. Models that they once played with as a kid, are available again now to the adult collector. If i could, i would buy them. Plus, it is pretty amazing, all the stuff Tomica is coming up with. Truly a brand for kids AND the adult collector. And both groups are beeing served with great models.

What makes me wonder is, that Tomica seems to have no interest in trying to expand to new, world wide markets, offering their home page in multiple languages would be a start. Many collectors would appreciate, me included. But who knows, maybe thatīs how you built a cult status........

Or does anyone has a plausible explanation, why availability in certain parts is next to none??
